International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with NIOE, a joint UN/WTO development agency that is fully dedicated to the internationalization of SMEs through multi-faceted technical assistance has developed a e-Curriculam to benefit SME’s in Sri Lanka.
As part of the trade facilitation component of an EU-funded project on trade-related assistance that ITC is currently implementing in Sri Lanka, the NIOE will be in charge of administering and facilitating the “e-Curriculum”, an e-learning training course specifically designed to enhance the competitiveness of exporting SMEs in the SAARC and EU markets.
Developed by ITC to tailor the Sri Lankan market, the online course is purposely addressed to individuals working in the exporting industry and to prospective exporters, including existing businesses and students considering entering into international trade.

About the NIOE
The National Institute of Exports (NIOE) is a non- profit institution promoted by the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE). The NCE was established in 1986 and is the only chamber dedicated to exclusively serve Exporters in Sri Lanka. The chamber has over 450 member companies and has helped many small and medium enterprises to grow their businesses.
Creating a strong trading community with a professional knowledge in international trade laws and practices as well as the overall functioning of the multilateral trading system has become one of the key priorities of the hour, if Sri Lanka is to emerge as a regional trading hub, making use of its strategic location in the global shipping routes.
Such a professional trading community will also play a pivotal role in making the ambitious target of Sri Lanka achieving USD 20 billion worth of exports by 2020 a reality. The National Institute of Exports (NOIE) is dedicated to creating a prestigious class of trade professionals through designing and delivering of high standard, tailor-made courses that would make a visible change in the way we conduct our international trade
The e-Curriculum Course
The course seeks to provide trainees with an in-depth technical understanding of the procedures related to export regulations/documentation/freight and logistics requirements associated with the export of goods from Sri Lanka. In particular, the e-training, which consists of six modules, will offer a specific focus on the required procedures related to the export of three key products in Sri Lanka, namely spices, garments and fresh and processed food. At the end of the course, participants will undertake an assessment and receive a verified Certificate of Competence. After completion of the course, it is envisaged that the participants will achieve a solid knowledge of all aspects of the export procedural tasks associated with competitive and successful trade.The benefits of this facility is that users will be able to learn during their leisure time or in any convenient manner at their own pace without any hassle, and will therefore especially be useful to those who are employed, and others, engaged in busy schedules.

- The course is facilitated by Master Tutors, who will guide trainees through the various modules and ensure their assistance to participants over the whole duration of the course. Trainees will also proactively engage in group forum activities and receive a certification after successful completion of the course
